Support Ryan Hall’s quest for Olympic Marathon Gold.
Join us in supporting Big Bear Lake running hero Ryan Hall's quest for 2008 Olympic Marathon gold. The Lighthouse Project challenges you to help “Move a Million Miles” before Ryan’s Olympic Marathon this summer in Beijing, China. Through shared pride and support for Ryan, this spirit initiative encourages an engaged and active lifestyle, as well as demonstrates the benefits of integrity, commitment and involvment to our youth. Not only is this the first time anyone has ever pledged this kind of support for an athlete, but it also is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to personally participate in the Olympic Dream. You can be part of this historic effort and make a healthy difference in both your life and the lives of others. Participation is simple, and we don’t need your money - just your miles.
Get up, get out, and log your miles.
Simply log your miles each day and submit your report each week. Miles can be from any human-powered activity such as running, walking, hiking, biking, skating, snowshoeing, etc., and all miles help us reach our overall goal of a Million Miles. Reporting is easy: submit your mileage each week via phone, mail, fax, e-mail or the website. The final day to log mileage will be Sunday, August 24, 2008.
Get others going, too.
Your optional Group Affiliation will impact more people and can be any service organization, business, club, classroom, etc. Challenge friends, family, and other organizations to see how many miles they can do, and to see how good they will feel as a result. Try asking others to promise you they will get moving and log their miles. Schedule times to meet up and move with others. Sharing the outdoors with others is fun, healthy, and invigorating.
On August 23 watch Ryan run.
Imagine how good it will feel to watch Ryan line up at the start of the Olympic Marathon on August 23 knowing that your support, combined with that of the whole Big Bear Community, will help propel him toward his goal of Olympic Gold. We would like as many people as possible to benefit from this historic opportunity to support Ryan and participate in the Olympic Dream. So won't you please join us and encourage others to start Moving for Ryan?
Ryan Hall is not only an exemplary athlete, but also an extraordinary individual who dreamt a huge dream and, through focus and dedication, worked many years to see his dream come true. His message to Big Bear and the world is that our dreams, and those we have for the future of our children, can come true through similar focus and dedication to excellence.
When asked to be a spokesperson for the “Move A Million Miles for Ryan” campaign, Ryan quickly saw the connection between the objectives of The Lighthouse Project and his own life’s path. He liked the idea of the 'Move A Million Miles' campaign, stating: “I’ve always wondered why there aren’t more runners in Big Bear, since the conditions are so beautiful and ideal for training. Anything that encourages people to be more active is great.”
Ryan’s wife Sara, also a very accomplished runner who will run trials for the women’s Olympic team this June, added, “We really enjoy working with children and wanted to have some opportunities to run with them here. We want the chance to give back to this community.”
